Beilis, Menahem Mendel

(1874-1934)
   He was the victim of a blood libel charge in Russia in 1911, having been accused of the ritual murder of a 12-year-old boy. In 1913 a trial was held and he was acquitted. This event was the subject of the novel The Fixer by Bernard Malamud.
